News Update: The Closure of the California BPPVE and its impact on Western Seminary

Following the closure of the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) on June 30, 2007, Western Seminary (San Jose and Sacramento campuses) has entered into a voluntary agreement with the Director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs for the purpose of providing Western Seminary with a legal method to operate under California law and to comply with applicable federal statutes, rules, and regulations from July 1, 2007 to January 31, 2008 for financial aid purposes. During this time period all of Western Seminary programs are both accredited (regionally and nationally) and fully recognized by the State of California, including the MFT for licensure. The California legislature is currently developing legislation to replace the BPPVE with a new Bureau, effective February 2008. The voluntary agreement was a provision of California Assembly Bill 1525. A copy of this legislation, in its entirety, is available on the Legislative Counsel's website at www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html. Students with inquires may contact Dan Ruiz (San Jose Campus) at 408.356.6889 x402 or Dave Fredrickson (Sacramento Campus) at 916.488.3720 x5.
