If your desire is to become a capable, skilled,
critical theologian who is able to connect theoretical ideas to
real life, you need the ability to work within the original languages
at a deep level. Western's Exegetical track gives you a deep capacity
for study in the original languages of Scripture requiring both
Greek and Hebrew through to the point of skillful exegesis. Within
the exegetical track you will have up to 8 elective credits to select
either more interpretative courses or electives within the major
evangelical fields of theology. Students who enter the seminary
with prior Greek and Hebrew work will be tested and granted either
credit reduction or high-level electives within the language. This
track includes the courses required to continue on to Western's
Master of Theology program, as well as most other post-graduate
programs elsewhere.
This track maximizes your number of electives
(10 of the 64 credits) giving you the freedom to shape a significant
portion of your degree to your theological interest. Western's cutting
edge courses in functional language training use existing translation
tools to provide the foundational knowledge and interpretive skills
needed to interact with the original languages of scripture. The
track is not recommended for those looking at further graduate or
post-graduate work in disciplines that require heavy reliance on
the original languages. However, if your objective for graduate
theological training focuses upon understanding historical, systematic,
pastoral, or biblical theology, this unique language approach gives
you the tools you need to take advantage of the original languages
in the future while allowing room for more theological electives.
