This program develops in students a strong comprehension of theology, rooted in a thorough investigation of the Scriptures. As a result of this pursuit, students will be academically fit and spiritually prepared as informed theologians for their particular ministry context or postgraduate studies. Based on their goals, students select one of two tracks: Exegetical or Theological.
Students in this language-driven track will concentrate heavily on developing their exegetical skills in Greek and Hebrew by taking 18 required credit hours from the original languages and 6 credit hours in open electives from the areas of Bible, theology or ministerial studies. For those interested in postgraduate studies, students may also choose to complete the thesis option or take extra restricted electives to best position themselves for the future.
Students in this track will have no language requirements. Instead, students will select 18 credit hours of electives in the areas of Bible, theology, church history, or languages. The remaining 6 credits of open electives include the student’s choice of courses from any area of study.

In this program students will discover the power of the person of Jesus Christ through a thorough investigation of the Scriptures using English as well as the original languages. From there, students will find their hearts transformed by the work of the cross as they reform their own theological convictions through the crafting of their own doctrinal statement of faith.
Upon graduation, students from this program will find themselves to be well-suited for a wide spectrum of teaching roles within a variety of ministry settings. Such roles include: teaching pastor, ministry leader or educator at a secondary or undergraduate level. The program also provides a path to continue studies at the postgraduate level.
The Sacramento campus offers classes in a variety of scheduling options: a Monday track with daytime and evening classes, midweek evening classes, and intensive weekend classes. We also offer a distance learning option, through which students can complete up to 1/2 of their training, as well as a modular In-Ministry track for paid ministry practitioners. Applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or its full educational equivalent from a college or university accredited by a United States association holding membership in one of the six regional accrediting associations, that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada, that is a member of the Association for Biblical Higher Education, or from an institution which maintains similar academic requirements and standards.
Admission requirements for this program include a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. Western Seminary recommends that an applicant’s undergraduate degree contain a minimum of 35 semester hours of the liberal arts and sciences.
