This program provides advanced training in biblical and theological studies to people with a variety of interests. Such interests include: pastors seeking to deepen their ministerial foundation, graduate students wanting to prepare for further postgraduate study, or other graduate students simply desiring to devote some time to developing a specialized interest in a particular field of study. This highly flexible degree program encourages students to customize almost every aspect of the program to meet their needs and interests as they prepare for leadership in the church, further study, a career in teaching, or whatever task God has laid before them. Students may choose to complete a thesis track that provides more emphasis on research, or a non-thesis track to enroll in additional electives.

Our students will encounter the power of the gospel and the person of Jesus Christ through advanced exploration and exegesis of the Scriptures, using English as well as the original biblical languages. As they build their theological convictions and love for learning, they carry their wisdom and understanding to bear on their ministry context.
Upon graduation, students from this program will find themselves to be well-suited for a wide spectrum of teaching roles within a variety of ministry settings. Such roles include: lead pastor, teaching pastor, or as an educator at a secondary or undergraduate level.
The Portland campus offers a number of intensive formats including week-long courses, Friday-Saturday courses, courses that meet every other week, as well as webinars. The Th.M. program in particular focuses on making several intensive courses available each year to serve the needs of the many Th.M. students who are already involved in full-time work or ministry or who reside outside the Portland area.
Our professors are more than teachers of the Word -- they are doers and practitioners. As such, they bring years of pastoral and ministry experience to best equip our graduates for life and ministry.
Applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or its full educational equivalent from a college or university accredited by a United States association holding membership in one of the six regional accrediting associations, that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada, that is a member of the Association for Biblical Higher Education, or from an institution which maintains similar academic requirements and standards.
A Th.M. applicant must also hold either a Master of Divinity degree or an academic Master of Arts degree from an accredited graduate-level institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Applicants with an academic M.A. will be asked to demonstrate significant ministry experience along with proven communication abilities to serve in lieu of a Master of Divinity. Admission to proceed will be based on these outcomes along with the recommendation of the Th.M. Director. |
