Our students integrate a biblical worldview with cross-cultural communication. They research the backgrounds and histories of various cultures and people groups in order to acquire understanding and cultural sensitivity, with the goal of communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ clearly and effectively.
From this foundation we seek to provide the necessary tools, knowledge and experience so that students can continue to grow as cross-cultural workers with strategic influence for the Kingdom.
Our program requires a six-month, cross-cultural internship experience where students will be mentored and have the opportunity to apply new skills and knowledge. Through these combined experiences, students will enhance their ability to adapt to other cultures as they integrate their coursework into genuine ministry application.
The Portland campus allows students to complete courses through the Monday Only track with additional courses delivered throughout the daytime, while the intercultural internship component is completed off campus. We also make available nontraditional avenues like the In-Ministry track for paid ministry practitioners. Students may also complete up to 1/2 of their M.A. training through distance learning. To learn more about these delivery systems, visit this webpage.
Our intercultural studies professors include both resident and visiting experts representing the spectrum of cross-cultural missions. These seasoned veterans combine contemporary research and global experiences in the classroom.
