Purpose & Outcome

The Doctor of Missiology is an in-service program introducing the student to the literature and resources of missiology, with special emphasis in the area relevant to the student’s on-going ministry. The program is not separate from the student’s ministry, but is intended to integrate higher learning with practical relevance. Time invested in D.Miss. studies should result in vast personal enrichment and ministry improvement.

Specialization Options

Students may select electives from four key areas: pastoral preaching, pastoral leadership, pastoral care, and pastoral life/spirituality.  Each of these courses incorporates the spectrum of the pastoral task as it applies to one key area in the minister’s life. A minimum of six courses are offered per year.  The goal is to schedule at least three years ahead, so that students can plan wisely in their curriculum selection.

In addition the dissertation serves as a capstone project which is immediately related to the ministry of the writer.  It is theological reflection applied to the pastoral situation, and normally something the author completes with the people to whom he/she ministers.  The project allows the student to focus upon a specific area which is crucial to his/her own ministry effectiveness.

Program Distinctives

In this program students will develop their global leadership with a stronger passion for Christian mission and better skills in making disciples, which is at the core of Jesus’ Great Commission.  They will experience personal transformation and enhance their professional, strategic, and academic competency for serving as carriers of the gospel.

This is an advanced professional degree intended to aid in the development of leadership for the worldwide church.  The program is designed to aid Christian workers who are being challenged by the dynamics of globalization, postmodern orientation and religious pluralism when serving at home or abroad.

The curriculum is offered in an annual cycle and each class is a week-long intensive seminar.  Therefore practitioners can enroll in the program without resignation from ministry or relocation to campus. This allows students from domestic and international centers to enjoy in-service training and prevents “brain-drain” from the majority world.

This user-friendly program will allow maximum integration of academic advancement and ministerial proficiency.  Students will enjoy the high-touch mentoring relationship with professors for personal enrichment and ministerial improvement.

Our faculty members are experienced field workers and seasoned researchers who will be accessible to students personally, leading to effective ministry professionally.
